Carla List-Handley

Carla List-Handley has taught the
required information research course at Plattsburgh State
University (SUNY) for more than 20 years. She is the author of
the textbook, Information Literacy & Technology, 3d
ed. (Kendall/Hunt, 2005; 4th ed. in press), that
is used currently in many of PSU’s LIB sections and in courses
throughout the US and abroad. List also taught course-related
sessions at Plattsburgh State. She
speaks and presents workshops on research instruction and
teaching at various venues; she also has served as a consultant
on information literacy programs and research instruction. Some
of her recent workshops were held at the New York Library
Association’s Leadership & Management Academy, Point Park
University in Pittsburgh, and Lamar University in Beaumont, TX.
She received the SUNY Chancellor’s
Award for Excellence in Librarianship in 1995 and the Librarian
of the Year Award from the Eastern New York Chapter of ACRL (ENY/ACRL)
in 1997. She was promoted to SUNY Distinguished Librarian in
2003, the highest rank in the State University system. She is
the third librarian to achieve that rank. List-Handley became
SUNY Distinguished Librarian Emerita at the end of July 2005.
She recently completed a project in PSU’s Feinberg Library
Government Documents collection, and continues to teach LIB105
as a Visiting Distinguished Librarian.
List-Handley received her B.A. in Theatre from the University of
Wisconsin and her Master of Arts in Library Science from the
University of Iowa. She offers a workshop on teaching as
performance that allows her to combine her two strongest
interests: theatre and teaching.
