For an increasing majority of undergraduates today, the
classroom is the only regular point of contact that they have
with other students, faculty and staff members. Thus, using the
classroom to create communities of learning must be a high
priority in terms of creating a success-oriented campus culture.
Faculty members in partnership with student affairs
professionals and other staff can work together to fashion a
rich, engaging classroom experience that complements the
institution’s academic values and students’ preferred learning
styles.

directs the Center for Postsecondary Research, home to the National Survey
of Student Engagement (NSSE) and related initiatives. A past president of
the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), Dr. Kuh has
written extensively about student engagement, assessment, institutional
improvement, and college and university cultures and has consulted with more
than 185 educational institutions and agencies in the US and abroad.
